The Secretary General of the Niger Delta Youths and Stakeholder Congress, Davies Iyieke, has dismissed as false a viral report linking him and the organisation to an alleged call for the investigation of a former Executive Vice President of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr. Tombomieye Adokiye.
In a statement personally signed and made available to journalists, Iyieke described the publication as a fabrication, insisting that neither he nor the Niger Delta Youths and Stakeholder Congress authorised, issued or endorsed the purported petition or statement circulating in the media.
He said the report, which has gained traction across several online platforms, falsely attributed statements and actions to the organisation, thereby creating a misleading impression among members of the public.
‘We Never Issued Such Statement’
According to Iyieke, the organisation has never written or submitted the alleged petition being circulated in its name, nor has it mandated any individual or group to speak on its behalf on the matter.
He maintained that the use of his name and designation in connection with the publication was fraudulent and should be disregarded by the public.
“The publication is false, misleading and does not represent the position of the Niger Delta Youths and Stakeholder Congress. At no time did I sign, authorise or endorse the purported petition or any statement calling for the investigation of Mr. Tombomieye Adokiye,” he said.
Iyieke urged media organisations to verify information before publication, warning that the spread of unverified reports could damage reputations and undermine public confidence in responsible journalism.
Calls for Responsible Reporting
The youth leader appealed to journalists and online publishers to uphold the ethics of accuracy, fairness and balance when reporting issues involving individuals and organisations.
He also advised members of the public to disregard the viral publication, describing it as the handiwork of unknown persons seeking to drag the organisation into a matter with which it has no connection.
Iyieke added that the Niger Delta Youths and Stakeholder Congress remains committed to promoting peace, constructive engagement and the socio-economic development of the Niger Delta, urging its members and the public not to be distracted by what he described as false and mischievous reports.
The clarification comes amid widespread circulation of the publication across social media and some online platforms.
